The first system I bought this generation was the XBox 360. The PS3 was already available at the time, but there where no games that interested me back then. I waited for Lost Odyssey to be released before making the plunge. I'm a sucker for Sakaguchi's games and vision (My favorites from him are FF VI and IX).
Then a year later I got a PS3 because of Metal Gear Solid 4. Tried the demo of Uncharted shortly after and got hooked to the series. Becoming, to me, the game series of the current generation.
The DS is a no-brainer. Any gamer should own one. The quality and diversity of the games on this system is probably unmatched. Especially for those who grew up at the beginning of the gaming era and are fond of classic style gameplay. There are also many unique gems on this system like the Professor Layton series and Scibblenauts to name a few. I got mine a couple of years after its release, when the Cobalt DS Lite got first launched. Never regretted my purchase.
Last system I got was my PSP. There is just too many Square-Enix games on this system that I had to own that I just couldn't resist anymore. I use it mostly to listen to music, but I still game on it from time to time, and am eagerly anticipating Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
I have yet to get the Wii. Many of my family members do have one, so I got to play many of the must have games. I'm most likely gonna get one as soon as Zelda Wii and Metroid: Other M land on the store shelves. I did Twilight Princess on my Cube and I had a blast. Not sure I missed much from what the motion controls added to the already stellar experience. There are so many games already released and coming out soon that I'd like to play and complete, like Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3. Not mentioning the upcoming Dragon Quest X...
