The game has a bit of a learning curve, so be prepared for that. A word of advice: it is well worth it to buff up your machine guns early and somewhat often. Battles are pretty fun, a bit more strategic than most RPGs.
The bitch of the whole thing is the arena. There are 50 ranks, each rank is a certain mob. To unlock the next rank, you must beat the current rank 3 times. For a gold trophy, you must beat each rank 10 times. This isn't hard, but EXTREMELY tedious.
It's slightly more difficult than FFXIII (only because of the learning curve in the first few hours, whereas FFXIII babies you), takes less time (82 vs 106 hours for me), but is more repetitive. For reference, I consider FFXIII a 3. This... around 2.5?
*edit* ps3t has FF13 at 6.67, RoF at 5.89 currently, so I guess most people agree with my assessment that RoF is slightly easier.
