I'd say wishful thinking if the OP didn't have a green box under his name. One of the three vg console makers has run huge deficits to bolster their hw nos. and might conceivably be in some financial difficulty.
M$ on the other hand, makes $ on every console, has a growing pool of xbox live revenue and has sold 120m more units of software than their HD rival. Not to mention accessories. ($122 cdn. w. tx. for 60 GB YGTBFKM!). Does this sound like a company or a console that is doomed? Rip-off artists maybe but not doomed.
They entered the vg market to stop Sony from dominating the world's living rooms and competing with their core business. In just their 2nd gen. they are running consistently in the black. With the $4B entry fee (Xbox) and their mistake in rushing the 360 to market (rrod) long written off, the 360 is contributing roughly $1B/yr to the bottom line. It appears M$ are here to stay. Who knows, maybe next gen they could even compete with Nintendo.
