One reason why I doubt Alan Wake's ability to win GOTY? Max Payne and Max Payne 2 aren't that good. They're solid games, but as soon as Max Payne 2 went all psychological bullshit on me I lost all interest in it.
That's not to say that Wake has no chance of being a great game, because I'm pretty sure it's going to be awesome, but even when I thought it was coming to PC I never once considered it a possible GOTY contender once it came out.
This year's GOTY's should be interesting to see. They'll probably be the second games in a franchise that takes the series in an awesome new direction or groundbreaking new IP's, as per usual. If Alan Wake succeeds at storytelling and pushes psychological thrillers in a unforeseen new direction, then it'll have a chance at GOTY, but because of Max Payne I have my doubts about the story.
