There was no bigotry of any kind. Brown is out of order... simple as that. No spin or excuse can change that - the end. Also... yes bankers have raked in the cash the last few moinths, as a result.... so have the treasury. £5bn in bonuses in the city in the 1st quarter means... £2.5bn in taxes. Bankers raking in the cash? - bigotry? yes - ignorance? you bet. New dialogue, new ways? Nah.. countries like Greece and others are on the take imo, taking an easy ride on the tails of wealthier nations... enougn is enough. Greece and the like will only get stronger by competing, not by being spoon fed. Europe is fat and lazy and full of beurocratic talking shops deciding whats best for the minions. It's all bollocks. And it makes me angry.

Well, despite misunderstanding what I am trying (and perhaps failing) to say, I appreciate that you took the time to read it.
Firstly, I think that what is going on the real world for people is war, starvation, suffering, confusion, joy, happiness, love, hatred, depression, pressure, poverty, wealth and so on. So, yeah, I have a pretty good idea that a lot of people are ok and many, many others are not. I understand that she was worried by immigration and I can see why she would. Personally I would put up the view, the way the world is organised into haves and have-nots is going to lead to people moving to where the wealth is. Putting up barriers appears to be a way to hold on to that wealth at the expense of others.
Your comments about Greece suggest that you basically accept the capitalist world-view that we must compete and that greed and self-interest must be the way of the human, when I see that as propaganda for the current system. I think scarcity is a product of the system and that it can be overcome if we start to look beyond the profit motivation, but I don't know, I might be wrong and we will always be at each other's throats.
I agree that Brown is out of order in once sense. She had actually listened to what he said and he, perhaps, had got her on board, you are right, but he was also correct in that she had an opinion about Polish people that could be portrayed accurately as bigoted. You can disagree with this if you wish, but it is factually correct because it didn't take into account other perspectives on the issue, although to be a true bigot you would have to stick with it. The point of my article is that there is no true opinion. There are but many perspectives and you choose to hold to yours, but it doesn't make it true. Some perspectives are better evidenced than others, but there is always, always counter-evidence and so the dialogue of opposition and combat continues.
Much argument is caused by poor communication and I am not convinced I have clearly expressed myself here, but maybe it is a start of a better dialogue and perhaps I ought to revisit the essay entry as it was not satire, it was my attempt to express my frustration at the whole political process and the in-built mechanisms of defend and attack and the reenforcement of prejudice and constant opposition. I certainly wasn't defending Brown. In fact I said (at least hoped to say) the motivation of his words were to defend his government.
I am, therefore, thinking you may have completely misunderstood what I was saying or I have not been clear enough.
Can I ask you what you thought the main point of the writing was? Hopefully then we can get some clarity. I am off to bed, but will revisit the thread. Very tired!
Yes.
