First of all Stringer is the chairmen of Sony. He is not specifically public relations. Secondly he has been critical of the PS3 in the past. Given that there is no reason to say he is full of shit. You should judge a person on their past actions. He has not been prone to ridiculous claims. In fact he is one of the few corporate execs to comment on gaming that I respect. There is very little in the way of spin and balderdash.

He simply said he thinks that the high end gaming in Sony's future will overcome Nintendo's casual appeal. The statement isn't necessarily bogus. This year even given the sales of the Wii the high end games have done incredibly well across many formats.

Titles like Halo 3, Bioshock, the Orange Box, Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, and Madden have all displayed that the core market is still very strong. That said increasing your offerings for such market might help a lot. Anyway compare the announced lineups for next year of the PS3 versus the Wii.

Nintendo has two very strong titles next year in Mario Kart, and Smash Brothers. Both titles should do exceedingly well. However Sony has Home, Little Big Planet, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Grand Theft Auto, and many other high end games on their platform. Put succinctly if you believe high quality games sell consoles. You should believe that Sony should start to perform much better.

I doubt Sony can overcome in the West considering its competing with another product that offers the exact same thing in the 360. However there is light for the PS3 in Japan. The only question is how well the high end games will do for the PS3. The console philosophy is a well founded one more high end high quality games generally cause a console to sell better.

Anyway hyperbole aside it seems rather obscene to call the man what amounts to a stuffed shirt when he has agreed with much of what these very forums have said. Not only has he agreed that the format was a mistake, but that the price was excessive. Further more he is placing faith in great games which the PS3 just did not have enough of this year. Will it work thats for the future to decide, but he is hardly a lunatic for thinking so.

Rip on the likes of Tretton they do deserve it, but the level headed guy making a opinionated statement about library quality mattering in the near future is hardly public relations spin.
