Country music is (from what I understand) pretty popular across all of North America with most of the biggest acts centered in Canada and the United States.
Personally, I’m not a big fan of traditional country music (too twangy) but modern country music is much more in line with traditional rock music; and you will quite regularly see a lot of pop acts that are heavily based in country music. This should not (really) be that surprising being that Rock-n-Roll came from the blending of country music and rhythm and blues; and as country music is re-blended with rock, pop, latin music, punk, reggae, jazz and (countless) other styles it seems to be returning to a similar point to where rock was spawned.
With that said, there are many musical genres that I would rather listen to than modern country
