In contrast the Wii is roughly equal to the PS2 in Japan, 1.5 Million units ahead in North America, and roughly equal in the other regions.
For another Comparison ...
The PS3 is already 400,000 units behind the Gamecube in Japan
The PS3 is already 500,000 units behind the Gamecube in North America
The PS3 is 500,000 units ahead of the Gamecube in the other regions
For a grand total of 400,000 units behind the Gamecube.
In other words, the PS3 more closely matches the sales of the Gamecube than it does the PS2
