Two reasons. 1) The US is a very consumer driven country. Buying is our culture, and there really isn't a more resliant country when it comes to buying patterns. 2) Videogames are entertainment. Escapist entertainment no less. During the great depression movies were extremely popular, even by people with no jobs at all.
