Sounds like he's saying he's getting no video output at all.
Either the GPU is fried (usually shows up as video defects: heavy green and pink pixelation/distortion in the worst case, light pink and green pixels of "snow" with lesser problems) or your video port(s) is out.
It's improbable both video ports went out simultaneously, so if both your HDMI port and your multi out port are not working, the video controller is out.
If you buy a slim before selling your old unit, you'll be able to recover your save data via console to console transfer.
