Sony is really not implementing 3D properly here...but I understand why they are doing it like this. They want to sell you the new 3D TVs...
They should have implemented a 3D driver that supports checkerboard pattern.
That would allow them to drop 1/2 of the resolution processing and show a 720p image per eye yet have both images come together in the persons brain and form a 1080p image.
But no...must support new HDMI 1.4 tech...even when its not needed.
I'm still looking to try PS3 in 3D but I can't help think that the experience will be flat compared to Nvidia 3D vision.

GF100 chips do 3D just fine. I have a gtx295 and it handles Metro2033 (considered one of the best looking games) and I get a perfectly playable frame rate in 3D with everything maxed out at 1080p. Other games like borderlands and left 4 dead 2 have 100+ frames per second...in 3D
