Just like every other thread, I will compare FFX to the games of its time and other PS2 games. As such, I give it a solid 9.0 out of 10. I still consider it both a step forward and a step back for the series, as I wish they had kept more of the interactive and junction elements of FFVIII, such as being able to junction status effects to your weapons or use button combinations for additional damage during limit breaks. And they could have done a lot more with Yuna's Summons, which later in the game just became pretty meat shields. But the idea to evolve characters with a sphere grid, the change from a ATB system to a more technical and skill based system and the deeper characters were all good. The story could have used a lot of work however.
I did not play FFIX so I cannot rate it.
