The convergence is already here, it's called Skype. But there's actually a good reason that cellphones aren't -- and shouldn't -- be designed the same way as console handhelds. Cellphones are 1-finger devices: press once, and talk/chat with friends. The iPhone gets this right, the games are "point-and-play".
But game handhelds are 2-finger devices: its games are "point-navigate-play". The PSP2 will hopefully have a mix of touchscreen controls as well as buttons, i.e. it will have some "point-and-play" games, but you do need a larger set of controls to do justice to the 720p-quality, massively-connected, socially-networked mobile games of the future.
