No way. FFX had the best FF battle system ever, so deep. FFXIII was a turd in comparison; even FFXII is superior, and gosh I hated that game. Back to square one, Square

lol, how was FF X's battle system deep? :P I liked the Sphere Grid but when it came to the actual battling it wasn't much different from other turn based games.

I'd prefer if more devs went for more innovative turn based battle systems like Baten Kaitos Origins or Paper Mario as I said before.

@andre

Agree. TTYD combat is fun.

I stressed about how it was the best of the FF games, not other turn-based RPGs! It was vastly superior to the ATB system, why on earth do I have to rush through my options in a JRPG? I do that in a FPS or Monster Hunter game!

Also, it was extremely deep. Search youtube for videos of finishing off Jecht and ending the game at ''level'' 1! You could plan ahead for many turns. That's depth to me.

As for Paper Mario and such, I loved its battle system (M&L even more), though they really lack in depth. They are JRPGs at core, while retaining all the playfulness, simplicity and enjoyment of a typical Mario game. As far as epic battle systems though, I'd put FFX, FFVIII, FFIX, FF Tactics and many other game over them, though.

This. When I play JRPG's I want to relax. With turn-based system I can lie on sofa and think about what I do carefully. I might even go to kitchen and take some soda and then continue. I really don't know why everything needs to have action all the time nowadays. If I want to play action games I play FPS or some hack'n slash.
