@Contestgamer: Why should the games be watered down? If MGS3 and 4 were watered down, that just proves my point further; someone doesn't give a shit about the people who would be interested in buying the games.

The only reason why any art has become successful is that it managed to please the public.

In any case, the point is, why should anyone care if Kojima wants to be an artist or not, if he's not interested about them. Then again, the people interested in playing Kojima games in the future, better hope he's interested in gamers and his games turn out to comnercial successes. Otherwise the games stop coming. No publisher is interested in games that just "break even". Maybe he's going to make a free flash game or two, if he manages to flop hard.

My point was that artists don't give a shit about what the pulic thinks...They ceate art for thesemlves, to express something through their work and then share it with others. Whether you like it or not doesn't effect the integrity of the work itself. The difference between shallow, packaged goods is that they're created soley to "sell". That's fine for a things of utility, like an iphone, whatever...but if you'd like to believe that games have some sort of artistic merit (or potential for it) such as paintings, books or even films do, then just creating empty products to do nothing more than entertain customers and make money won't cut it... There should be a greater balance of junk food and brain food among games like there is in othe ceative industries.
