Final Fantasy - 5/10

Frankly, this game hasn't aged well, and it didn't help that it really did nothing new for the console rpg genre. Under two months after it was released Dragon Quest III was released in Japan, a game that pretty much made Final Fantasy look exactly as it was, a cheap Dragon Quest clone that was trying to get a cut of the profit. Although, I'm not saying I didn't enjoy this game, it being a NES game, it has quite a bit of charm to it, but this game is clunky, slow, and just hasn't aged well. Even the updated versions wreak of how shallow this game really is. Even by the standards of when it was released, I think it would still have a 5/10 for me, and would have probably made me hate rpgs in general.

Final Fantasy II - 4/10

Needless to say, this is one broken game.  With a poor plot, forgettable characters, and an awful advancement system, this game didn't really do much to improve the series... in fact it was a major step backward.  It comes off as if Square was just trying to cash in on the success of the previous game even though they were really trying to make a unique experience...  Luckily for us, games like this has allowed Square to learn what does and doesn't work.
