To be fair, a lot of the sentiment may lie more with personal convictions rather than public. For example, someone such as myself is vehimently anti-homosexual from a relgious standpoint (I believe its morally wrong), but am pro-gay marriage because I simply don't have the right to force another person into my views.

Abortion is a little bit different of a matter, though, because you can have 2 sides to the same 'which side is restrctive towards personal liberty?' coin:

  • One may believe that its authoritarian to ban a woman from having an abortion
  • Another may believe that its authoritarian to allow a woman to destroy a fetus

Otherwise, most other issues are pretty cut and dry - either you are for restricting freedom to do something, or not.

Can you explain how it could be considered authoritarian to allow a woman to destroy a fetus?

@mirgro. They are social issues, thus they have to do with social conservatism. The fact that they are religious is as I said is unimportant.

I understand that, but you cannot in any way shape or form argue that they fall under the conservative spectrum if you are anti-abortion, I don't use the term pro-life because that is just laughable when applied to 80% of anti-abortionists, or anti gay right or any of those.

Conservatives, as it stands, want as little government control over their lives as possible. They don't want to be taxed, they don't want to have anything to do with the government. But as soon as it comes to controlling a human body, "oh sure go right ahead, forbid the gays or the women control over their bodies!" Have you ever talked to conservatives like those? Try to pressure them into how they can be anti-government, and at the same time support blatant body control legislature, and just watch the absolutely most hilarious form of cognitive dissonance I have veer heard. "Oh that's different!"

Anti-abortion, anti gay rights, and other grouops of similar form are very laughable when they label themselves as conservatives. If I were ever to label myself as a conservative, I know I'd be deeply ashamed I identified in the same group as them.
