Natal is a controller, and like the current controller it has its own power source so just like the current controller it can power on the 360. Tv remotes have been doing it for a long time so it isnt exactly new tech.

It isn't that simple. Something has to process the audio using voice recognition. You don't want your 360 turning on whenever someone says anything around the camera.

Natal has a built in processor that handles the base voice recognition processing and functionality. It likely has a set of default commands built in such as "360 On".
I think I'm getting goose bumps. Only a few more months to E3.
