The iPhone already has its own tag in the database. Since VGC doesn't have an effective way to track hardware or software sales on the platform, the only other thing they could do is add a Mobile or Apple category to the forums.
If you mean the community itself, more and more people are quietly converting all the time. Whether it's because they're gaming on the platforms themselves, or because all the major publishers are publishing games for it, or because it's getting software ported from the other handheld platforms, people are coming around.
The reluctance is somewhat understandable. Apple took a very oblique path into handheld gaming, but it's getting harder and harder to for people to rationalize that it isn't a gaming platform.
