Japanese RPGs are still as long as ever. I don't really see the appeal of really long games. To each their own but most of the content in jrpgs seems like filler to me. Yeah you'll clock in a lot more hours. Why? Because you are required to fight the same enemies a heck of a lot more than you would have to in an action-adventure game or the average western rpg these days. That length is artificially inflated. I'm all for the bang for your buck principle but if the extra content isn't enjoyable, what's the point?

If you are really concerned about bang for your buck, start renting games. I have a rental subscription and it's awesome. If you don't want to pay $50 for short single-player games, you don't have to. Either rent those games or wait for the bargain bin.
