it sold that much before people knew what a downgrade it was. GTA:SA sold more on the ps2 then GTA4 did on the ps3/360 combined. So gta4's sales actually declined compared to the previous installment. That's a sign of the series getting old. lol

Im aware that GTA IVs sales are much smaller than previous games in the series, but they are still very high and the game is in the top 5 in terms of sales for both the 360 and the PS3. And although many people might have a negative view of the game, they will probably amount to a fraction of the combined 13 million sales figure, with the vast majority of GTA IV players likely willing to buy GTA V if/when it comes. Thats why the series isnt on its last legs, and wont be until be until its numbers are significantly smaller (see Guitar hero series sales)
