Seems like a lot of people aren't reading the subject: what did the PS3 do that was copied. And from my perspective, it's not much. We've got:
-Microsoft adding HD movie playback.
-The ability to install games to the HDD. (Though this is something PCs have been doing for years.)
-Internet browser. Yes, they were first this gen. But this was not a Sony creation. Even ignoring PCs, we have the Dreamcast saying hi. (And I suppose we don't want to talk about the portables, either? Both of them beat PS3...)
-Virtual property. I don't get the appeal of this, but yes, Sony was first to sell you crap for your home or avatar.
And some people have said the following, which are wrong:
-Netflix. This did come to the 360 first.
-HDMI port. First on the 360, though you needed to not get the core version.
-Wireless controllers. Oh, where to start? Sticking to this gen, again, the non-core launch 360 came with one. (But I really should go back to Acclaim's 3rd-party wireless NES controller. Or maybe the NES Sattelite?)
-Slimming? Well, for this gen, maybe, if the 360 does trim down. Though this isn't unique to Sony; it goes back to 1986 and the Atari 2600 Jr.
-Motion controls. Nope. While debatable with the release periods of the Wii to PS3, it was the announcement of the motion in the Wiimote that led to the shoddy six-axis motion. Nintendo announced it first this gen, though again, credit would I believe go to the Power Glove. (IIRC, it does predate U-Force.)
-Home button. Funny, what is this big button in the middle of my 360 controller? It might not be called home, but the function is the same. (Though its origin is the PSP.)
-L3/R3. This is more attributable to MS copying the PS2, not the PS3.
-Larger HDDs. Say what?? This is a straw grasp, and not innovation. Adding in the HDD to a console I would say is, and that goes to XBox. I'd call that a Sony copy- PS2 got one after the fact, and PS3 got one after the 360 had one.
-Classic controller. Nope, sorry, the roots of this one were in the SNES controller. My guess is that this new design will be so they can try to start phasing out GC controller production, and needed to replicate the grip of the N64 controller better. (Leading to more N64 VC games?)
