probably not. vgc has 12.5m ps3s sold from may 09 - mar 2010. currently, vgc has ps3 at 34m. it may be argued that the slim launched on september with a nice price cut and that ps3 sales would increase for may - aug. but take note that from may 08 - aug 08 the ps3 sold 2.3m as compared to 1.6m units sold from may 09 - aug 09.
base on those figures, the ps3 would probably sell at best 13m from may - march 2011 making total units sold 47m.
to reach 50m, sony would have to 1) bundle gt5 like crazy 2) have another price cut 3) market ps move like crazy to make sure it actuallly sells 5) release at least 2 AAA exclusive titles to compensate for sales boosts caused by uncharted2 and gow3
if they do all that, they could probably sell the extra 3m to make 50m
