Sony is perfectly within their legal rights to do what they did. Especially if it means protecting their intellectual property. This is no different than a major patch in an MMORPG/Game. Simple logic dictates that the consumer has the choice in this regard. No one is forcing you to update anything. Individual countries specific laws designed to coddle their incapable citizens don't apply.
Read the ToS....If you agree with it. Then select 'Accept'. If you don't, then select 'I do not accept'.
