Yes because this situation doesn't also affect users 6-12 months from now when games will start coming out requiring that version of firmware or higher in any way whatsoever. Seriously do you even engage your brain at all before letting your fingers go nuts on the keyboard?
Game developers and movie producers don't have to incoporate new firmware requirements for thier movies and games; yet they would because it protects them piracy.
The fact is, sony is not removing the otherOS, instead they are removing their support for PS3 that has the OtherOS. The bottom line is basically, you are choosing to get your future support from third party group via OtherOS, or you can stick with Sony (but lose otherOS) and get support from them.
Actually it's an advertised feature, seriously, pull your head out of Sony's backside before you post next time.
Which is why Microsoft can't pull the plug on the Xbox online service... oh wait..
