Actually there is some truth in that.... HD DVD discs are built using the same laser diodes as Blu-Ray (meaning MS could use free-market economies of scale), and disks can be produced in cheaply-converted dvd factories.
If HD DVD fails it will not gain widespread hacker and pirate attention, and there is something to be said as to why MS might well go with HD DVD next time even if Blu-Ray wins convincingly.
