I'd say most of the people on Live are there because they like multiplayer enough to pay ~$50 a year.  Most multiplayer gamers don't give a shit about story, or even touch the story mode unless their internet is down and they are bored.  Nothing wrong with that, in fact they are the most engaged player demographic which is why OSDT sold more than KZ2 in one day than it had LTD.

If anything, I'd say people who don't like online and enjoy jRPGs and single player games are beta males that go online to get curb stomped, ragequit then go emo because they suck.  Multiplayer is ALL gameplay, Carmack said it best at quakecon 09 that it's like a sport, there's no need for story, it's just fun - unless you suck and aren't willing to get better.

Gameplay > graphics anyday, and it will show in sales.

Lucky thing my girlfriend and employers doesnt have the same definition of playing single player game. Actually could very well be the other way arond, "MULTIPLAYER a world where beta male can finally dominate and control something :P". Would make a great publicity.
