Kind of an off topic question, but is California known for its cowboys? I'm not a very big Western American history buff (which is quite ironic, I know). 

It was in the 19th and early 20th centuries but not so anymore.  At least on the level that it used to be.  Central east, and NE Cali are usu the more conservative parts of the state now so there may be some rough and readies out that way.
