The Church has mishandled this whole affair quite spectacularly, i must say.
I almost hope that Richard Dawkins gets his way and has the Pope arrested when he goes to Britain, just to see the spectacle of it all (though nominally i oppose such a move since it violates standards of diplomatic immunity)
