Since I can't honstely put Chain of Memories, Coded, or 358/2 Days over the main entries in the series, I'd say the best game of the main two is the first. There were new things in the first game that I'd discover even after playing through it 4 times. The sense of exploration in the first game that I loved wasn't carried over into the second where all the item chests and enemies were clearly shown to you in plain sight with little depth. I also felt the original game's story was far less convoluted, even among Kingdom Hearts standards. For Gummi ships I can't decide which game's version I prefer. I felt both were terrible honestly. I liked the idea of Reaction commands in the second game, but I wish they were executed better than having a giant green triangle in my face. Maybe have me have to manually watch the enemy and look for certain movements they make so it wasn't so obvious. And that's my main complaint with the second game I suppose. Everything was obvious.
