If you look at their release schedules historically, Msft and Sony have strategically released their exclusives around the same time as each other to directly compete. R1 vs Gears1. R2 vs Gears 2. LBP vs. Fable 2. KZ2 vs Halo Wars. MAG vs ME2. Heavy Rain vs Splinter Cell (until it got delayed). I know the last two aren't Microsoft first party titles but I'm sure since they were exclusives that MSFT had some say in the release date. This strategy isn't unique to just Sony vs. Msft. Competing sports titles usually come out on the same day. Last year we saw inFamous and Prototype come out around the same time. Call of Duty and Medal of Honor are both coming out this fall. I could go on and on. Bottom line is that I would be very surprised if Sony doesn't schedule one of its two big shooters to come out next spring to compete with Gears 3. Hopefully we hear something at E3 |
This is likely FAR MORE of the case of the industry having release windows for certain titles. I don't see where it is in response to the other for doing it. I would be stumped to see how the heck Fable and LBP are supposed to be responses to each other, or Heavy Rain and Splinter Cell for that matter.
