Isn't Deadly Premonition an example of a survival horror game with an open world? From what I've seen, it looks like Resident Evil meets GTA (you have a large overworld with lots of side missions) meets Twin Peaks meets Suda 51. So it's not like it hasn't been done before.

Haven't you seen the review scores for that game?

Deadly Premonition had a 61 on metacritic. It's not like it was universally panned by critics. IGN isn't the be all end all. And besides I don't really pay attention to metacritic scores anymore. People who play only 80+ metacritic rated games may very well be missing out on some amazing experiences just because they assume that they wouldn't like any game rated lower than 80.

I hear ya man...Deadly premonition is awesome. But I dont think anyone will say that the game is amazing due to it being sandbox...
