I didn't say it failed, but its not pot o gold. Especially after the Beatles.

it got the fanbase and its always the better game due to longevity and continued support

That doesn't mean that EA made money on the deal. I'm not attacking Rock Band, I'm just saying that it might not have been a big money making machine for EA.

grims is right.  i wish i could find a link but i've reached my 2 mins of effort already.  there was an article not too long ago that basically layed out how much EA payed to buy harmonix, develop rock band 1/2/beatles vs how much revenue they have recieved.  EA is still down by quite a bit.  grimes isn't saying rockband isn't popular just that EA hasn't seen returns on their investment yet.
