The "fourth wall" in storytelling is.... well it's like when you're watching a TV show. You only see three walls in a house - the fourth wall is comprised of your perspective, the invisible barrier that separates the story from the real world.
When a character winks at the audience, that's breaking the fourth wall.
When the character acknowledges that they're in a story/game/show, that's breaking the fourth wall.
When Psycho Mantis reads your memory card or comaplins about how there's no more memory card to read, that's breaking the fourth wall, reminding you that you're just playing a game and not to get into it.
MGS breaks immersion constantly. This is not new.

But still, Psycho Mantis is part of the main story of MGS. How are Monster Hunter stuff part of the MGS story? And Kojima said that this game is part of the official MGS series?
Hopefully it's just a mini-game... otherwise, well... it's a PSP MGS game I suppose? Never took them seriously.

You said the problem was in breaking immersion, not in breaking cannon. I don't care about MGS cannon between games, and immersion in MGS is a fleeting dream at best.
This would change basically nothing.

Well I guess I didn't express myself well enough. All I want is the game to make sense, in the 'MGS way' if you prefer? I know there have been product placements before, that's not what I'm talking about anyways. I'm just saying, if this is part of the main series, he better find a damn good reason to include this island in the game if it's part of the main story!
