Not sure why I even have to explain this, but GT3 and GT4 are PS2 games. GT2 or GT are PS1 games. Nobody bought a PS3 with PS2 BC so they could play GT4 or any of the others; they didn't have to. GT5 will be a system seller. Take a bet if you believe otherwise. You completely missed the Halo 3 point. I'll make the point simple so anyone can understand. Nobody "held back" from buying an Xbox 360 when Halo 3 was released despite it being a pretty modest step up from Halo 2. There is no huge hold out of Halo fans who didn't bother picking up a 360 as they are still waiting for the "real" first Halo game (presumably Reach with its all new game engine) to show up on the 360. And for the record; the number of people who were waiting for an "exclusive" Wii Zelda to buy a Wii (implying that there is some huge hold out of Nintendo fans still playing their Game Cube, waiting for that perfect moment to upgrade to a Wii) is in all likelihood pretty negligible. You can argue for the sake of arguing, but most will probably agree with this. As for Dragon Quest; it will not move anywhere near the same amount of consoles as GT5. You can bet on that one too. JRPGs didn't move a hell of a lot of Xbox 360s in Japan; and it had quite a few platform exclusives. That's a pretty fair indicator of how much of a system seller the JRPG genre in general is currently in Japan. So both of your examples are pretty poor comparisons, particularly when you look at the overall picture, being global sales, where the GT franchise has even more clout. |
And I'm not sure why I have to explain that Twilight Princess is a gamecube game that was ported to the Wii
I am not claiming that GT5 will not be a system seller, I have stated multiple times that it will be. The logc you use to say that Zelda won't be a system seller (that it is possible to play last generation Zelda games on the Wii) can, exactly as validly (ie not validly at all), explain that GT5 won't be a system seller (because it's possible to play previous generation GT games on the PS3. Because GT5 WILL be a system seller, your logic must be flawed, therefore you cannot use it to say that Zelda will not be a system seller. Look up proof by contradiction, that will make this much more obvious.
As for the Halo point, apparently it wasn't clear enough
Halo 3 can only be played on the 360. Twilight Princess can be played on the Wii or gamecube. Therefore if you want to play Halo, and own an original xbox, you have to buy hardware. If you own a gamecube and want to buy TP, you dont. You might not consider Halo 3 to be worth purchasing a console for (and I certainly don't) but hundreds of thousands of people DID)
So you've moved on from saying that GT5 is bigger than Dragon Quest in Japan and now you're saying that Eternal Sonata is bigger than Dragon Quest? haha, second time today I've laughed out loud
