Nobody knows when it's going to release it's lucky to have the amount of pre orders it has now in America

Everyone is underestimating GT5 waaaaay to much

I'm thinking there's a very good chance that GT5 may be the last significant hardware selling killer app this generation as it's the only key franchise that has traditionally moved massive numbers and has yet to appear on current generation hardware.

Most other major IPs are already on their second release of the generation.

Plus the GT franchise is one of those IPs that tends to sell to a significant number of non-gamers who happen to be huge automotive enthusiasts.

3rd last major IP that will see a release on hardware that has not seen a game in the franchise already

There has still been no Zelda Wii (ignoring spinoffs and ports)

Dragon Quest X would like a word with you

Actualy, GT5 could end up being the 2nd last if Zelda releases first)

Most everyone counts Twilight Princess as the first Zelda game on the Wii.

To say otherwise is almost like saying that Halo 3 and Halo ODST didn't count as the first two Halo games on the Xbox 360 on account of both games being essentially a Halo 2 engine game with modifications and that Halo Reach is really the first Halo game to appear on the 360.

Zelda will be a hot seller, but it's not going to be moving anywhere near the same amount of hardware as GT5.

As for Dragon Quest; it should move a lot of hardware in Japan, but again, nowhere near the same impact as GT5, which appeals more to a general audience rather than a niche JRPG audience.

Most everyone is wrong.

By your logic, the Playstation3 is capable of playing 2 or 4 (the 60 gb version) main series GT games, Most everyone knows this. Thus GT5 will not be a system seller.

The Halo analogy misses the point completely. Halo 3 could be played only one 1 platform, therefore people had to buy the platform in order to play the game. Therefore Halo 3 was a system seller. ODST wasn't a hardware seller because anyone willing to buy a console to play Halo already had done so. People could play Twilight Princess on the GC, so TP wasn't a hardware seller. Thus there are quite possibly Zelda fans who don't own a Wii. Do you understand or should I try to explain again? My wordiness is a bit hit and miss today, sorry.

I never claimed that Zelda will as much hardware as GT5 - it's a smaller series for starters. However It will be the third biggest hardware pusher left this gen (from an established franchise only, something for vitality/move/natal could push some hardware, and assuming that GTA and Cod stay multiplat)

So you make the claim that racing is a bigger genre than JRPG's in Japan? Thanks, I''ve been in a miserable mood due to homework all day, and reading that was the first thing to make me laugh out loud all day :)

Not sure why I even have to explain this, but GT3 and GT4 are PS2 games. GT2 or GT are PS1 games.

Nobody bought a PS3 with PS2 BC so they could play GT4 or any of the others; they didn't have to.

GT5 will be a system seller. Take a bet if you believe otherwise.

You completely missed the Halo 3 point. I'll make the point simple so anyone can understand. Nobody "held back" from buying an Xbox 360 when Halo 3 was released despite it being a pretty modest step up from Halo 2. There is no huge hold out of Halo fans who didn't bother picking up a 360 as they are still waiting for the "real" first Halo game (presumably Reach with its all new game engine) to show up on the 360.

And for the record; the number of people who were waiting for an "exclusive" Wii Zelda to buy a Wii (implying that there is some huge hold out of Nintendo fans still playing their Game Cube, waiting for that perfect moment to upgrade to a Wii) is in all likelihood pretty negligible. You can argue for the sake of arguing, but most will probably agree with this.

As for Dragon Quest; it will not move anywhere near the same amount of consoles as GT5. You can bet on that one too.

JRPGs didn't move a hell of a lot of Xbox 360s in Japan; and it had quite a few platform exclusives. That's a pretty fair indicator of how much of a system seller the JRPG genre in general is currently in Japan.

So both of your examples are pretty poor comparisons, particularly when you look at the overall picture, being global sales, where the GT franchise has even more clout.
