Mac are good to up to a certain level of video editing, animations, etc.  If you go past a certain level you can't even think about using a mac. Things like 3D rendering, animation creation, etc.  Have you ever seen what they were made on?  I wonder how many game developers develop their games on Mac.  Probably slim to none.

A simple processing tasks such as video editing for a movie or making music as a musician would be ideal on a Mac.  It would be easier and more efficient on a Mac.  I think that this is where a lot of people get the wrong idea that Mac is superior to PC in high end stuff.  It's because they see many movie studios or even their favorite musicians use Mac for the movies and music videos.

OMG Avatar was made on Mac so Mac must be better than any PC.  Chances are it probably was made on Mac, only just the editing part.  Most of the CGs were probably made on PCs before it was imported onto the Mac to be edited.

I think both are great but it depends on who is using it for what purpose.  There are so many time I see people use their Mac and I ask them why they chose Mac.  90% of the time I get the same answer.  For school(word processor) and browsing websites.  Most people IMO aren't even using the Mac to its fullest and should only be using a light low end PC.  For the general audience, I think IMO, a PC would suffice and be more efficient than a Mac.

Our university doesn't even have macs for any of the games design courses. They do for music technology, graphic design and film media and production.

With gaming and animation:

Up untill Maya 2011 it wasn't available on mac (most common 3d package for film and animation).

3Ds Max is not available for mac (most common 3D package for games design).

Digital sculpting and high res modelling:

Zbrush I believe has always been available on Mac.

Mudbox has only been ported to Mac in the past few years.

Neither of those require high specification graphics cards, more relying on CPU/RAM.

Macs have always seemed to be the preferred tool for artists for some reason, used them when I did graphic design in college. Music and video seems to be mostly edited on mac also. But PC seems to be the preferred platform for 3D modelling and games design, probably because that's the platform most games are designed for in the first place, so you can make your model and port it straight into the engine to test it out.
