lol there's no way amazon would do this all on their own. either its already been decided in court that sony needs to send refunds or that amazon already got an agreement w/ sony. a retailer would never part with cash before it was official unless they weren't the ones covering the costs. what reason does amazon have to lose 20% of their income on the console for a problem sony created?

so basically the way i see it is we all get refunds or none of us will (and by all i mean including non-amazoners)

Actually it's more of an issue for Sony than that. Amazon may well have known they had no choice but to do a partial refund under their own legal consumer obligations. That said, they would almost certainly demand that Sony reimburse them and should Sony refuse, defpending on how much Amazon lose they not only would likely sue Sony but remove all Sony products from sale. This in turn, as Amazon are arguably the world's most well known online retailer, the effect would only snowball, causing Sony massive issues in being able to get their products into stores. This in turn would affect sales globally and in turn stock prices- which at that point becomes a very self-destructive cycle. I think Sony are praying that this goes away. Sadly it wont happen- expect Sony to possibly go the way of Sega after this whole debarcle.

amazon would have to lose a LOT of money to decide to stop carrying ps3 products.  They make quite a bit of money from it, but if it were to become very widespread it could reach that point but it's really unlikely.  Amazon had to refund 84 pounds, and they probably only made something like 3 pounds on each PS3.  Sounds bad but if it doesn't become widespread it isn't a problem for amazon.  There are other things amazon can do though, they can stop the promotion of PS3 products, they can stock less, stop special deals, promote multiplatform games as 360 games etc.

That's one hell of a presumption. This happened with a unit out of warranty in europe- that precedent opens up the floodgates not just for every "phat" owner who bought from amazon but from for every "phat" owner everywhere. Right now it's only 84 pounds, but in the coming weeks it would be highly surprising if he wasn't one of many people who come claiming a refund. Also that kind of refusal to carry stock would snowball when it becomes not just Amazon but gaming retailers everywhere refusing to carry sony products. Sony would eventually have to back down because in reality they would lose alot more money from noone carrying their products. Not to mntion the long term damage to Sony as a brandname.

we'll have to wait and see if it gets that far and if other retailers jump on board.  I'm sure thousands tried to get the refund once the article came out, i've heard most people were denied so far.
