Actually it's more of an issue for Sony than that. Amazon may well have known they had no choice but to do a partial refund under their own legal consumer obligations. That said, they would almost certainly demand that Sony reimburse them and should Sony refuse, defpending on how much Amazon lose they not only would likely sue Sony but remove all Sony products from sale. This in turn, as Amazon are arguably the world's most well known online retailer, the effect would only snowball, causing Sony massive issues in being able to get their products into stores. This in turn would affect sales globally and in turn stock prices- which at that point becomes a very self-destructive cycle. I think Sony are praying that this goes away. Sadly it wont happen- expect Sony to possibly go the way of Sega after this whole debarcle. |
amazon would have to lose a LOT of money to decide to stop carrying ps3 products. They make quite a bit of money from it, but if it were to become very widespread it could reach that point but it's really unlikely. Amazon had to refund 84 pounds, and they probably only made something like 3 pounds on each PS3. Sounds bad but if it doesn't become widespread it isn't a problem for amazon. There are other things amazon can do though, they can stop the promotion of PS3 products, they can stock less, stop special deals, promote multiplatform games as 360 games etc.
