Where did you read this?

IGN.com there is a review there. 5 hours for the SP is kind of lame considering how long the game was in development for. I also think IGN over rates games alot. To me there sell outs.

I remember reading somewhere that the coop campaign is about 5 hours or so alone and it does not have to be played on Xbox Live it can be played with a friend locally or with an AI partner. So even if the single player campaign is 5 hours you still have roughly a 10 hour campaign on your hands.

They said it was to be shorter then the SP so I doubt it. Still it's probably another 3 hours and as you said can be played solo with an AI partner. Brings the length up to about the same as most other action games these days. I expect the bitching to continue though. Just as it does for every other game. People bitched about GOW3, Uncharted 2, Gears and every other 8-10 hour game as well. Why not this one?

I know it cost alot to develop games these days but do you see the trend of the short SP games out there these days. I think they plan to make the games short and  add DLC for extra cash! Dont get me wrong some of the DLC for some games are good. Look at Activision charging about 15 dollars for a map pack and thats 5 maps. But if people are willing to pay the price for such things it will only continue.

I understand where you are coming from. But like I've said, the games that I have enjoyed the most this generation have been about the same length as SC:C with the two campaigns combined. If you are only going to play a game once and don't plan on playing any mp then I don't see too many action games being worth a purchase by you though.
