Well I have to say. I think the quality is about the same... because there has always been many crap JRPG's. Just not very many JRPG's
The only 3 JRPG's that I liked are Valkyria Chronicles, and FFXIII. FFXIII was my third favorite final fantasy... which is my favorite series besides Metal Gear. (and Valkyria Chronicles and FFXIII are modified JRPG's) (As is ROF but I don't like it) I'm not hardcore enough :P. So if it continues this pace it will be the same amount. Yakuza 3 (Does that count?)
The JRPG's I liked on PS2 were. Dragon Quest VIII, FFX, Shadow Hearts 2, FFX-2, Persona 3: FES (I didn't like P4). And probably others
The PSone JRPG's I liked. are FFVII-FFIX, Xenogears, Chrono Chross, Vagrant Story,
The SNES ones i liked were.... FFVI but it sucked after you get separated., And Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG. I thought FFIV was irritating, except Rydia is hot... so that goes on here because of her. Super Maro RPG. (I played mostly Zelda and donkey kong at the time tho haha).
So, I don't think it's gotten worse for me. But The dialog's gotten better in JRPG's I think, it's just it's spoken, so if they say something
stupid it's much more noticeable. I personally thought this generation sucked til this past year. For next gen games in general.
