Sony protect "us" from hackers how? I don't think the "us" part is misused.
I see it like a jailbreak for phones for CFW for PSP.
It opens up the platform for the user to use however the hell they want, and not how Sony wants.
It's a win for users to me. (No, not everyone use it for piracy, just you and the people around you.)
