This is very important news and should get its own news piece, but it's about a retailer wanting to keep a noisy client satisfied.
Sony's actions, despicable as they might be in a customer satisfaction sense and even from an ethic standpoint, will be confirmed to be against EU law when a court sentences so.
A class action would likely result in Sony being obliged to keep the system software up-to-date when it comes to complying with the advertised features (i.e. play new PS3 labeled games, get troubleshooting updates and install another OS at the same time).
Removing free access from PSN though is likely to be entirely in their rights: it's a service that they've been offering for free pro-tempore, but that it's clearly stated that they have the right to shut off. And I can't see how a court could rule otherwise.
