Interestingly enough, the guy that has posted a lot of the most-viewed YouTube videos from this riot/revolution is a forumgoer at a forum I visit sometimes (militaryphotos.net).
Here is his story about the situation:
were made by me. As I was uploading the videos to youtube a stray bullet hit a window next to my office and our office security told me to GTFO pronto.
Which I eagerly did
My home connection was dead and GPRS was turtle-slow and I was able to go online only after 4 hours or so, only to discover that English Al-Jazeera and Russian RIA were looking for me
cuz of the youtubes.
Anyhow, you all have probably seen photos of rioters with souped-up Kalashinkovs. These rifles (and an RPG) were captured by the rioters in the vans when the SGO guys (Sluzhba gosudarstvennoi okhrany/Security of the President) were dispersed by the rioters. It should be mentioned that before the riots the SGO was the most feared security service in the country. It had the best funding and best equipment. It was headed by the President's brother and it recruited only cutthroats of unquestionable loyalty.
Anyhow, when things started going bad, the SGO dudes decided that they didn't want to shoot at their people (which I can understand) and fled the scene, leaving their vans with equipment behind (which I can't undersand).
What is really scary is that a city policy department in Tokmok (60km from Bishkek) was stormed by two thousand rioters. The rioters captured about 100 firearms. ![]()
After this, the mob turned towards nearby barracks of the Ministry of Defense. At that time my friend was there, in the barracks, with the Scorpion SF unit of the Ministry of Defense. When the Scorpion guys learned of the incoming mob, they quickly loaded all weapons and ammo on trucks and drove to a safer facility in Bishkek.
So now we have drunk idiots on the streets with 100+ rifles and fucking grenade lanuchers, which isn't particularly encouraging.
More worrying news come from the South. Bakiev and his Minister of Defense appear to have fled to Osh and there are rumors that they are gathering and arming their supporters. Basically, Bakiev wants to start a civil war. What is encouraging though, is that seeing that the SGO - the force that he nourished and cherished, gave best equipment and gear- didn't do squat to help him, I doubt that he will find any volunteers to die for him.
Crazy times. Great to hear the guy is safe.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
