The problem is still price though. The 3D quality in Avatar was great and there are a few other movies that do 3D great, but most are just kind of tacked on and that is what most will continue to do. Because of that, 3D won'y be much more than a gimmick that just kind of kills itself. When standard movie tickets move to $20 a piece, that extra $3 isn't going to be worth it when you're already spending $60+ on tickets alone for a family of three. Beyond that, you then have to get the people to buy a 3D TV. There are only a handful of movies that support 3D and, what, 2 games? That isn't nearly enough to justify a purchase for anyone except tech geeks and people with too much money to spend. Until 3D becomes the norm at home, and that means movies and TV and games, 3D isn't going to be anything but a fun fancy for the above people. Avatar isn't going to push that, the thing that pushes it is when most every movie comes out in 3D and Avatar quality 3D. Rational people aren't going to spend $3000+ just to watch Avatar like they did in the theaters. |
You can wtch 3D on many projectors, some of which are less than 1000 bucks. Also, you can watch it on 4 computer monitors with Nvidia 3D vision and a PC. Also, you can watch it on Mitsubishis DLP televisions which are 1000 bucks for 65 inch screen...
I am not saying that everyone will buy in to 3D but there is a way and it isn't as expensive if one does some research.
