I experienced this pressure of needing to have those 100 % long before the introduction of achievements. That's what makes you play something repetitive and tedious like the Endurance level in Rogue Leader. Shooting the same waves of TIE fighters for 200 minutes straight isn't fun, but it gives you enough time to think about why you are doing it in the first place.

Truly great games don't need anything like achievements, you play them for years because they are entertaining. You don't need an artificial goal set by the developers, like collecting random items that have really nothing to do with the actual game.

If the only reason you keep playing a game is that you want those 100 %, then that's usually a sign that it isn't really a good game in the first place. And once you are done, it's likely that you never touch it again.

Play games that you enjoy, time is too valuable to waste it on titles that feel like work.

Very well written. I guess you are right. Just like you said, time is too valuable to be spent on something that is supposed to be fun and not work .
