I know just what you mean, After reading a article about how Microsoft hired some sociologist to create achievements I've started to hate how they can affect your behaviour when playing games. I would want a opt-out or even just a hide notification.

No one can deny that the "reward" of an achievement or trophy doesn't feel nice, and that one of the first things you do with a game is look at the list of them to see which ones to aim for. When Trophies first came out I enjoyed super-stardust HD and it made me play it like I hadn't before, or the achievement for no shooting in mirrors edge.

However achievements often have a bad effect too, I wonder how many people got all of the flags in Assassin's creed 1 on the PS3, I'm imagining not many, how many on the X360? You got nothing much an achievement...

I've not been effected by the "must have" I recently bought eternal sonata on the PS3, however it did come down to extra content vs achievements... It should just be a straight choice. Although price did feature as well. But I have a friend that no won't buy/play anything that doesn't have achievements and buys many poor games just for easy ones.
