It's kind of meh banning women from wearing that in the streets. Though it's not really surprising since a lot of politians (and not only) see Europe as definitely having a problem with the integration of muslims, and well, burqa is quite a radical sight in that aspect.
As for schools (France banned headscarves in those), public institutions and the likes - I don't think there's much to complain there. I had to wear a school uniform, wasn't allowed to dye my hair or to have it long. I've had a job where I had to wear a tie. Most public institutions and private job places already impose rules on how one's to dress. So I don't see why some other dressing tradition should be allowed to override those.
Makes sense to ban them in airports and the likes, but as for regular walking around, a hat and some sunglasses already conceal enough. And you can hide under a trenchcoat whatever it is that you can hide under a burqa.
