The one we used most often at GS was called DFT, which is a tool from Hitachi. It can be found on the Ultimate Boot CD (along with tons of other tools) which allows you to run it without booting into Windows (if your OS is hosed). Run the extended test, not the quick test. If there's a problem, it'll tell you with a ginormous red error message.
