Even though I don't go all the way back with video games like eggs2see does, I completely agree. There was nothing like Gran Turismo when it first came out. Because of this, even when one other major one has came out (Forza), people stick to the original just because it is, the original, and the only one on the console.
So as eggs2see mentioned, they would essentially have to revolutionize another game. Is this possible??? Defiantly. On the other hand, I do not believe by any means it will happen with a fps game, at least in the near future. Modern Warfare already revolutionized that.
So what kind of game will it happen with. Well, it has to be something that appeals to a lot of people obviously. Yes, fps games appeal to a lot of people, but the market is so flooded with them, that it is now very difficult to revolutionize that. Music has also gone slightly over the dam. There are just too many games and it is flooding the market. I also do not believe it will be an RPG, because these do not appeal to enough people. Honestly, I feel the kind of series that could be a 10 million seller would be a game just like Little Big Planet. A family friendly game that can also be played by yourself and be very entertaining. Even though it is completely and totally different, this game reminds me a lot of something such as Mario when it first came out and how it was revolutionary. Make a game that is LBP x 2 and you have it. Very difficult, but possible.
Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.
